*56% of identity theft victims that could trace the source of the theft ultimately learned that thieves took something that was in their own possession. So the first rule of identity protection is: If you don’t need it, destroy it - responsibly. The BBB is here to help. *Source: 2008 Javelin Strategy & Research

What is
BBB “Secure Your ID” Day?
BBB and its partners will host a national identity theft prevention and education event in local communities coast-to-coast on Saturday, April 18th and again on October 17th. Bring up to three boxes/bags of paper documents containing personal identifiers, and we’ll shred it for you -- on the spot. We’ll also distribute great tips and resources that will help you protect your identity – online and off.

Acceptable Materials: Standard-size, paper-based materials

Acceptable Quantity: Bring as much as you can carry, up to 3 boxes/bags.

At this drive-through event, there is no need to exit your vehicle. The
BBB staff will transfer the documents from your car into shredding bins. Full shredding bins will then be emptied into the truck and destroyed. We’ll also distribute great tips and resources that will help you protect your identity – online and off.

Help the BBB get the word out about Secure Your ID Day!

This is made possible by the BBB Serving Western VA, NAID, and our local partners:
Cox Business, WSLS 10 and Cintas Document Management.
